FICSA Appeals Training Workshop - What are my rights?, Vienna, 13 November |
|
FICSA's Legal Advisor Laurence C. Fauth (www.unattorney.com) organized a workshop to train staff representatives in the process for appealing administrative decisions, hosted by the IAEA Staff Association with the support of CAP Insurance. The workshop required participants to assist and evaluate appeals of an aggrieved staff member (played by Mr. Fauth as ‘Joe Plumber'), taken from actual ILO Administrative Tribunal decisions, including determining relevant deadlines and the strengths and weaknesses of each case, making recommendations on strategy, and assessing the likely outcome of the appeal.
The 22 staff representatives who participated were organized into 5 Staff Councils. For each appeal ranging from probation to non-extension of contract, the Staff Councils had to also decide whether the case was strong or significant enough for the staff sssociation or union to assist the aggrieved staff member financially for the appeal. Mr. Fauth will conduct the workshop again before the start of the next FICSA Council on Sunday, 1 February 2009 in Paris. |
