The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on “Safety and security of humanitarian personnel and protection of United Nations personnel” which calls on States to fully comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law.  Another resolution on “Strengthening of the coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance of the United Nations” designated 19 August as World Humanitarian Day to honour all humanitarian personnel, including those who had died in the cause of duty.
