FICSA The FICSA Standing Committee on Social Security and Occupational Health and Safety advises the Executive Committee on:

  • Pensions: including items for the Pension Board sessions such as impact of currency devaluation on pension benefits; benefits for divorced spouses; purchase of additional years of pension; investment policy, etc.
  • HIV/AIDS in the UN workplace: including participation in the Task Force to provide input to the development of information and learning material; ensure equitable access to care, treatment and health insurance coverage for all staff; fight against stigma and discrimination.
  • Long-term care health insurance: collect and exchange information on the various health insurance policies offered by UN organizations.
  • Staff well-being: collect and exchange information on staff well-being policies such as the work-family agenda and promote best practice; monitor absenteeism and causes of disability: collect and exchange information on long-term care policies and advocate for a system wide long-term care coverage.

FICSA participates in the Inter-Agency Security Management Network (IASMN), which holds meetings twice a year to consider policy and practical matters related to the safety and security of staff.

IASMN in chaired by the UN Department on Safety and Security (UNDSS), which reports to the General Assembly on the functioning of the security management system, including the annual report on the safety and security of humanitarian personnel and protection of United Nations personnel; annual lessons learned and best practices reports; any other ad hoc reports as required.UNDSS is responsible for the consolidation, harmonization and promulgation to all duty stations of essential security policies, standards and operational procedures, including United Nations Security Operations Manual and guidelines, and the instruction package for implementation of the revised minimum operating security standards and safety best practices.

It also deploys mobile training teams/training officers to conduct/support safety and security training programmes of other agencies, funds, programmes and organizations of the United Nations security management system as required.
